Elemental Triathlon: Ironman-specialist from Rostock finishes on the podium – Test race on the Olympic-distance in Poland with an awesome audience

Andreas Raelert claims second place at Olsztyn

Olsztyn. Andreas Raelert claimed second place at Elemental Triathlon Olsztyn. Only a few days after his podium-finish at Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca the 36-year old dominated the Olympic-distance race in the Northeast of Poland most of the time. After 1.5 kilometer swim, 40 kilometer bike and 10 kilometer run there was a sprint finish which was won by ITU-Worldcup athlete Mateusz Kamierczak from Poland in 1:51:20 hrs. Andreas Raelert reached the finish line in 1:51:29 hrs ahead of another Polish Olympic-distance sepcialist, Mateusz Rak (1:59:14 hrs).

The race in Olsztyn was another important test race for Andreas Raelert a few weeks before the Ironman Austria that takes place on June 30th. “Olsztyn was also a race to test some details”, said Andreas Raelert, “for an Ironman it is important to be fast in the transitions and to be able to always switch the speed during the competition.” The World-record holder on the Ironman-distance was fascinated by the race atmosphere in Poland. “The weather was great with 27 degrees Celsius – and even more the audience was amazing“, he said after the race. “It was great to see how the fascination for Triathlon has developed in Poland.” During the run Andreas Raelert was leading the race up to Km 9.8. „On the last meters Mateusz Kamierczak has been the better one of us two that day.”

Andreas Raelert’s next competition will be on June 9th. At the Challenge Kraichgau he wants to win his third consecutive title - and to celebrate the victory at the German championships on the Middle-distance. “I’m looking forward to be part of this beautiful race with its great audience in Kraichgau and to have another successful test race for the Ironman Austria.”
