Michael Raelert wants to defend his title in Phuket

Legendary race in Thailand is on the schedule for Sunday – Looking forward to ride the CUBE prototype for the first time in competition – Strong pro field and a clear goal

Phuket. Michael Raelert wants to defend his title at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon on Sunday. After winning the race last year clearly in front of Swiss Ruedi Wild and Stuart Hayes from Great Britain, Michael Raelert wants to add another success at the legendary event in Thailand. "I arrived in Thailand a bit tired, but my legs feel good now," he says looking forward to the race. "I’m really happy to race on Sunday."

Michael Raelert successfully returned to competition after a long break at two races in the US. Although his fourth-place finishes at the Ironman 70.3 Miami and at the Ironman 70.3 Austin both have not been the result of a perfect race, these competitions gave him a lot of confidence. "In Phuket, I want to build on these first positive experiences," he says. Michael Raelert has been acclimatizing in the past few days in Thailand. Thanks to his training in the Sports Resort Thanyapura, he has been able to prepare well for the upcoming competition. "I am really looking forward to the race, especially because I will ride my new bike for the first time." Michael Raelert starts in Phuket with a prototype from CUBE, it’s the same prototype model his brother Andreas raced at the Ironman Hawaii.

On Sunday, the traditional race including a 1.8 kilometer swim, a 50 kilometer bike ride and a 12 kilometer run is expected to be a strong competition. Michael Raelert will meet some fast pro athletes at the starting line. For example, Stuart Hayes will be back in Phuket and as the two Italians Massimo Cigana and Alberto Casadei. Brad Kahlefeldt and Matt Burton from Australia will be part of the line-up as well as Scotsman Ritchie Nicholls. "I really want to compare myself to the field," says Michael Raelert. He has a clear goal starting into this competition: Michael Raelert wants to defend his title at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon.
