Challenge Laguna

Micha is aiming for the double

Second race in Thailand this Sunday – Competition on the Ironman 70.3 distance will be a tough challenge – Strong pro field is racing

Phuket. Michael Raelert wants to highlight his trip to Thailand with another success. One week after his victory at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon he is aiming for the double in Phuket. Challenge Laguna comes up this Sunday, it is another main part of the Challenge Laguna Phuket Tri-Fest and will be a tough race on the Ironman 70.3 distance. "I had my greatest victories on this distance," says Michael Raelert, "according to this, of course I'm really looking forward to Sunday."

The competition will be tough for Michael Raelert this Sunday. The 35-year old faces a course of 1.9 kilometer swimming, 90 kilometer cycling and 21.1 kilometer running – and a strong pro field. The line-up includes Swiss Ruedi Wild, the former Ironman Hawaii runner-up Luke McKenzie from Australia, Fredrik Croneborg (Sweden), the American Tim O'Donnell who ranked third in Kona in October, James Cunnama from South Africa and, among others, the Ironman 70.3 European champion of 2014, Bart Aernouts from Belgium. "There is not only the top 6 of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon last week in the race, there is a long list of quick guys," says Michael Raelert, "the race will be very fast in all disciplines."

Although it has not been easy to realize the specific tempo workouts you need for a long race on a high level due to the weather in Germany in the past weeks, Michael Raelert feels fit and ready to give his best for the second time in Phuket. "Of course it's a big advantage that I got used to the climate change," says Michael Raelert, "I feel very comfortable, and with a victory in your pockets you are always full of motivation."
