Michael Raelert wants to defend the European title

Rostockian is one of the co-favorites this Sunday in Elsinore – Tough field racing on the Ironman 70.3 championship course in Denmark – Interesting battle guaranteed

Elsinore. Michael Raelert starts full of confidence at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship Elsinore this Sunday. The Rostockian was able to take his third European championship title last year in Elsinore after his two continental wins back in 2010 and 2012. „I’m optimistic that I can deliver a good performance this Sunday,“ says Michael Raelert a few days out of his third competition of the season. „The first two races on the Ironman 70.3-distance this year didn’t turn out as I had hoped for, but think I can improve in Elsinore now.“

This Sunday, Michael Raelert is facing a strong field in Denmark. Several fast athletes are on the start list to race this continental championship. Middle-distance specialists, who will try to make the race fast early, will be part of the pro field as well as some strong long-distance experts. Patrik Nilsson from Sweden, Bart Aernouts (Belgium), the two Germans Maurice Clavel and Florian Angert or for example Swiss Ruedi Wild, Adam Bowden (Great Britain) and Michael Weiss (Austria) are some of the co-favorites. „I have to be right there and ready right from the start,“ says Michael Raelert.

Michael Raelert would love to celebrate his European title number four on the distance of 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and 21.1 kilometers of running in Elsinore. „I have to improve especially on the run,“ he says. „In the water and on the bike my form has been quite okay in the past few weeks, now I want to bring on a better run performance.“ Winning the European Championship for a fourth time, would mean a historic result. Michael Raelert wants to give everything to achieve this goal.
