Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay takes a surprising turn

Penalty withdrawn after the race in the Philippines – Huge respect and thanks to the organization and to extremely fair colleagues

Subic Bay. Michael Raelert finally ranks fourth at the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay. After protesting against a drafting penalty on the bike, the event organization of Sunrise Events has withdrawn the penalty. "This is a super fair behavior," says Michael Raelert, "I am personally very grateful for the fact that the organization has withdrawn the penalty." The five-minute penalty was taken away from his finish time. Due to that fact, Michael Raelert ranked fourth overall in 3:51:17.

After the race, Michael Raelert appealed against the decision, because he had not done anything incorrect during the bike ride. Several top professionals confirmed that Michael Raelert had been behaving correctly in the situation which was in question. "If it is necessary to prove how fair athletes can treat each other in world-class sport, the proof was given today here in Subic Bay," said Michael Raelert, "it’s great to see that the boys behaved in a selfless fashion. Besides that, I do have an extreme respect for the organization of the race. They reacted absolutely fair.”
