Michael Raelert: With some tailwind into race weekend

Victory at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon gives confidence for the Ironman 70.3 Thailand – Strong field includes World Champ Tim Reed – Important test for Bahrain

Phuket. After defending his title at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, Michael Raelert starts confidently into the next race weekend. On Sunday, he starts with some tailwind at the Ironman 70.3 Thailand in Phuket, and he hopes for another success there. "I am in a good shape," says Michael Raelert, "the pro field is strong, but I am well prepared and I feel ready to hit the gas on Sunday."

Michael Raelert has been working specifically in his training camp in Thailand to make himself ready for the double start. "The first part of my small mission worked well," he says, "I hope I can be even stronger this weekend." In the competition including 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and 21.1 kilometers of running the Rostockian faces a tough competition. Among others the reigning Ironman 70.3 World Champion Tim Reed from Australia is racing in Phuket. "The bar is high on Sunday," says Michael Raelert, "and it is important for me to lay a solid foundation for the next big tasks."

In addition to World Champion Tim Reed, the Ironman 70.3 Thailand will bring up some more fast athletes on Sunday. Tim van Berkel, Matt Burton and Eric Watson are three other fast Australians who could become a factor in the race. Frenchman Antony Costes is strong especially on the bike, and the two British Stuart Hayes and Ritchie Nicholls are among the favorites as well as Jan van Berkel from Switzerland, Fredrik Croneborg (Sweden) and the Italians Alberto Casadei and Massimo Cigana.

"For sure, it will be a tough competition," says Michael Raelert, "the weather conditions are very demanding here in Phuket. For me, the race is also an important test for Bahrain. "On Saturday, December 10th, Michael Raelert will compete at the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship in Bahrain. He wants to fight for the victory in a world-class field there.
