Ironman Switzerland

Micha wants to attack in Zurich

Sunday’s Ironman Switzerland is next on the racing calendar for the Raelert-Brothers – Demanding course and a tough pro field ahead

Rostock. Michael Raelert is looking forward to race at the Ironman Switzerland on Sunday. "It has been a rather short-term decision to head into this race," says the 34-year-old, who is currently preparing for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. "My training results in recent weeks have been a motivation for me to tackle the race in Switzerland on Sunday. I want to win and qualify for the World Championship in Kailua-Kona.”

During his preparation for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, Michael Raelert takes part in his fourth Ironman. "For me there is still a lot of space to improve on this distance," says Michael Raelert, "my previous Ironman races have not been very nice experiences." After taking second place at Ironman Regensburg in 2012 he was far behind the top pro athletes at the Ironman Hawaii 2012 due to problems on the bike. In 2013, he ranked seventh at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt. "I think I’m capable of a lot more," says Michael Raelert. He starts into the race in Zurich with confidence but as well full of respect. "The course is challenging and the pro field is very good. Even the name of Ronnie Schildknecht speaks for itself." The Swiss star has won his home race seven times, next to him there are more strong athletes on the start list like Italian Alessandro Degasperi, David Plese from Slovenia and the Swiss duo Manuel Küng and Jan van Berkel.

"My experiences with competitions in Switzerland are very good," says Michael Raelert, "that gives me some extra confidence." In the past, he won the Ironman 70.3 Switzerland two-times. In 2012, Michael Raelert marked the course record at the Ironman 70.3 Switzerland which is called the "little brother" of the Ironman Switzerland. "I expect a very tough race on Sunday," says Michael Raelert, "but I am also looking forward to a race that is known for its scenic views. I hope I can enjoy the race as long as possible.
