Michael Raelert wants to improve at Ironman 70.3 Austin

Second competition on the way back into the racing scene – Strong field is waiting in Texas one week after Ironman 70.3 Miami – Confidence thanks to solid performance

Austin. After making his comeback at the Ironman 70.3 Miami, Michael Raelert starts into the second race of his US journey this Sunday. The Rostockian is really looking forward to have a positive race in Texas after his solid finish in Florida. "I am very confident after this first competition," says Michael Raelert, "I hope I can make the next step now."

Michael Raelert was able to show good performances in all three disciplines in Miami, and that’s why he has positive emotions heading into the race in Austin. "Of course, there was some space for improvement in Miami, but it was the first race after my long break. In races like this, you simply do not know where you stand. I was really nervous and worried that I might not be able to fight for the victory." But right from the start, the two-time defending champion was one of the dominant athletes of the competition and presented himself in good shape. "At the end, ranking fourth is always bitter, but I mainly see the race as a positive moment."

In Austin, Michael Raelert faces a tough field again. In addition to last year's champion Sam Appleton there are more fast Australians racing like Joe Gambles, Paul Matthews and Christian Kemp. American Jarrod Shoemaker and his compatriots Matt Hanson, TJ Tollakson and Benjamin Collins are among the favorites as well as Guy Crawford from New Zealand and the fast Swiss Sven Riederer. "It will not be slow and easy," says Michael Raelert, "I hope I can move forward and improve my Miami result." After taking fourth place in Florida, Michael Raelert wants to fight for the title at the Ironman 70.3 in Texas.
