70.3 European Championship

Micha has to cancel his start

Health and a stable form are clearly in the focus - Ironman 70.3 European Championship: Two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion is injured

Wiesbaden. Defending champion Michael Raelert has to cancel his start at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship in Wiesbaden on Sunday. The two-time World Champion is suffering from an injury that has come up once again in his preparation for the race. "I am extremely sad that I can’t take part in Wiesbaden," says the 32-year-old, "I was allowed to win this race twice and I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere in Wiesbaden. Unfortunately, I can’t be part of this major event this year." After his victory at the Ironman 70.3 Berlin, Michael Raelert was called as one of the favorites for the European Championship.

Already in spring, Michael Raelert had to deal with health problems that have already prevented an ideal preparation for the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt. "I would have loved it to go the start line in Frankfurt significantly better prepared," Michael Raelert looks back. Especially in his running sessions he had to reduce the amount of kilometers and the range of intensity ahead of the Ironman in Frankfurt. Ultimately, his injury problems go back to a mountain bike crash in spring. In the preparation for Wiesbaden an irritation in his knee occurred.

After the younger of the two Raelert-Brothers has decided to cancel his start at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship in Wiesbaden, health is clearly in his focus now. "I don’t know what is still possible in this season," Michael Raelert says, "but I have not given up 2013 yet."
