Andy starts confident into the Ironman Frankfurt

Fifth participation at the European Championship – Extremely positive memories from the victory in 2010 – World-class field promises an exciting race on Sunday

Frankfurt. For the fifth time, Andreas Raelert will start at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt this Sunday. The race in the metropole at the river Main promises to be a highlight of the triathlon summer 2015. “Just a quick look at the start list is enough to make you shiver a little bit,” says Andreas Raelert, “I think I’m not the only pro athlete who feels this excitement.”

Andreas Raelert has many positive memories from the event in Frankfurt where he has been allowed to celebrate a great moment of his career, on July 4th in 2010 he won the Ironman in Frankfurt after a long solo. “It was a day you always dream of,” he remembers the race. He took over the lead after only a few kilometers on the bike and was able to show an impressive solo until the finish line. “That was the perfect race every athlete is waiting for,” says Andreas Raelert, “I would love to repeat this.” However, he experienced in Frankfurt not only as happy moments as in 2010. For example, Andreas Raelert crashed in 2012 on the bike, suffered a concussion and had to fight hard to finish the race in fourth place.

On Sunday, Andreas Raelert expects a very exciting race. “The field is absolutely impressive,” he looks ahead to the competition. In addition to the defending European Champion and Ironman World Champion Sebastian Kienle there is Jan Frodeno at the start who ranked third at the Ironman Hawaii in 2014. Eneko Llanos from Spain is as well part of the field, he won in Frankfurt in 2011. Frederik Van Lierde (Belgium), Kona champion in 2013, will be another top favorite, and there are even more strong athletes. “The field is absolutely world class,” says Andreas Raelert, “but that's in Frankfurt rather normal than an exception. There are no easy races. “

The goal of Andreas Raelert is clearly defined, although there is a great pro field racing. “I want to fight for the podium and to qualify for the Ironman Hawaii in Frankfurt,” says Andreas Raelert. He wants to prepare at the summer highlight in Frankfurt for the highlight of the season in Kailua-Kona.
