Ironman 70.3

Micha wants to make it again in Miami

Next Ironman 70.3 race comes up this Sunday – Positive memories after winning the event in Florida last year – Fast course and a strong pro field

Miami. Michael Raelert faces a mission this Sunday. The 35-year old starts at the Ironman 70.3 Miami, and he is willing to defend his title in Florida. "Last year, I was allowed to start a nice series in Miami," says Michael Raelert. After he had taken 2014 Ironman 70.3 Ruegen a couple of weeks before Miami, he was victorious in Miami and then celebrated three more great wins on the Ironman 70.3-distance including the Challenge Bahrain. "If it was up to me, it could all happen in the same way again," he says regarding the rest of the year after he took his second victory at Ruegen a few weeks ago.

Last year, Michael Raelert had a great start into the Ironman 70.3 Miami. During the swim, he was able to put himself into the mix being the third man to exit the water. He had an impressive bike ride and eventually ran into first place early on the half marathon course. "It was not only climatically a hot race, but also a very solid performance," he looks back on his 2014 Miami victory in 3:43:38 hours. Michael Raelert would really appreciate a similar result on Sunday. "I am fit and ready, my form is right there."

However, the pro race is strong in Miami. Especially on the bike, this race could unfold as a very fast battle. On the flat 90-kilometer course not only the strong American cyclist Andrew Starykowicz is expected to start a hard attack. There are more interesting names on the start list. Among others, there is Australian Paul Matthews racing and the three Americans Andrew Yoder, Cam Dye and Benjamin Collins. Especially the Germans Andreas Dreitz and Marc Duelsen, Swiss Jan van Berkel, the Estonian Marko Albert and the Canadian Taylor Reid could affect this race. "Thinking about last year’s race, I have very nice memories," says Michael Raelert, "I hope I can create some more on Sunday."
